Sing His Praises!
The Music Ministry of Davie United Methodist Church, under the direction of Wesley Pennington, is a multi-faceted program designed to meet the musical and spiritual needs of the congregation. Mr Pennington, an accomplished pianist, brings to the position of director a rich heritage of church music coupled with a strong performance background in both music and theater. There are many opportunities within the Music Ministry for all to be involved. Volunteers are always welcome!
Chancel Choir – sings at the 11 AM Traditional Service on Sunday mornings. Rehearsals are weekly on Thursday at 7:30 PM. The choir is open to all who love to sing, no audition is required. It is helpful if you can read music (but not necessary) and very helpful if you can carry a tune! The Chancel Choir takes a short hiatus during the summer. Rehearsals resume in September. Come join us!
Praise Singers – facilitates the worship singing at the 9 AM Contemporary Service on Sunday mornings. Rehearsals are weekly on Sunday at 8 AM. This is a dynamic, energetic group and requires a high level of dedication and involvement. It is helpful if you can read music. Rehearsals are year-round. Come join us!
Praise Band – provides the music for the 9 AM Contemporary Service on Sunday mornings. Rehearsals are weekly on Sunday at 8 AM and on Tuesday at 7:30 PM. Musicians who are skilled in playing contemporary music are encouraged to join us. The ability to read music and/or learn music quickly is required. Contact the Music Director for an audition if you are interested in this ministry.
Hand Bell Choir – provides special music on an “as needed” basis. Prior experience with hand bells and the ability to read music is not required, but helpful. Rehearsals are weekly on Thursday from 6:15 PM to 7:15 PM. The Hand Bell Choir takes a short hiatus during the summer. Rehearsals resume in September. Come join us!
Drama Team – performs skits, dramas & comedies for church services as required. Rehearsals are scheduled individually for each production. No theatrical training is required, but can be helpful. Can’t act? We always need help backstage. If you have the acting bug, or would just like to try, contact the Music Director.
Soloists – perform musical selections individually to enhance both church services. Strong musical ability is needed to fill a position as soloist. If you are interested in using your talents in our services, contact the Music Director for an audition.
Christmas Concert – Each year the Music Ministry presents a Christmas concert at an evening performance during the Christmas holidays. We welcome all who wish to be a part of this special season. No long term commitment to the music program is necessary. Rehearsals are on Thursday’s at 7:30 PM from September till the performance date in December. Join us! You’ll love it!
Chancel Musicians – provide music for the 11 AM Traditional service. Requires strong instrumental skills and excellent music reading ability. If you are interested in participating in this ministry contact the Music Director for an audition.
